Squish

Squish is a continuing assembly of sets of 12 snuggling handmade ceramic tea cups which are gently squished together when the clay is still soft so that each cup is shaped by its neighbors, which, in turn, are also shaped by their neighbors. The first set of 12 tea cups from the first gathering connects to the next set of 12 tea cups made for the next gathering. In this way the cups make a continuous passage of small vessels that are forming others and being formed.

"Piku piku" is a Japanese onomatopoeia that describes involuntary movements caused by unexpected contact. I want my work to make you feel piku piku, tickling something deep down inside you. - Yuko
